Happy 10th birthday, Carli Rhiannon
(a day late)!!!

I can't believe it's time to buy next year's calendar already. (Yes, I'm from the Pleistocene Era - I'm absurdly faithful to my trusty Filofax. I like having everything down on paper.) But since David keeps booking gigs up to a year in advance (!), I suppose I should break down and order the damn thing.

Almost December. She is indeed the Cruelest Month, what with the endless nights and all-too-brief daytimes, and the cold and the incredible busy-ness. The long, hard slog to the end of the semester, with a healthy side of holiday shopping and socializing. Already I cannot wait for summer, next summer, with its warm, slow, endless days and skin that tastes of salt and smells of coconut.

I want to smell the honeysuckle coming through my car vents. I want the ocean spray to make my eyes sting. I want my hair pulled back because I can't bear to blow it dry in the heat. I want to wear as little as possible on my body, and on my face because it has color all its own. I want to dance and sing until three in the morning. I want to sit up and talk until later than that. I want freckles in the corners of my eyes. I want to see every star in the night sky.

I want summer back.
